## Verified facts

Checked against LibraryThing's own documentation on 2026-08-20. Fields absent below are ones LibraryThing does not document, not ones we assumed.

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Reset starts at | https://www.librarything.com/lost_something.php |
| Reset by email | yes |
| The email contains | a link |

## Steps

1. **Open LibraryThing's password reset page** at https://www.librarything.com/lost_something.php. This is where the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in screen leads.
2. **Enter the email address on the account.** If you are not sure which address that is, search your inboxes for mail from librarything.com; the inbox holding those messages is the account email.
3. **Open the reset email and follow its link.** Links are single-use and short-lived; if nothing arrives in a few minutes, check spam and confirm the address.
4. **Choose a strong new password.** 16+ random characters, and never one used anywhere else.
5. **Store it somewhere sealed**: a password manager or encrypted vault, not a note and not a screenshot.

## Common problems

- **Password-reset email may not arrive if email address associated with account is no longer active.** If the email address on file for a LibraryThing account has become inactive, the password-reset email cannot be delivered. Users with this issue should contact LibraryThing directly at info@librarything.com for manual assistance. (https://www.librarything.com/topic/157199)
- **Password-reset email may be caught by spam filters.** Users may not receive their password-reset email from noreply@librarything.com if it has been filtered to their spam or junk folder. Check spam folders and search email for messages from noreply@librarything.com before contacting support. (https://www.librarything.com/topic/334496)
- **Reset token is single-use and quick-expiring.** Password reset uses quick-expiring tokens that can only be used once, not the older system of temporary passwords. Tokens expire quickly, so users should complete the reset process promptly after requesting the email. (https://blog.librarything.com/2014/02/password-reset/)

## Doing it automatically

Repass connects to Gmail once, finds the accounts you have, and runs this flow for you in your own browser. Passwords are generated on your device and encrypted before they are stored; Repass also holds a key that can unwrap the vault, so signing in is enough to open it. It pauses and hands over when a site asks for a CAPTCHA or a code.
