## Verified facts

Checked against Bitwarden's own documentation on 2026-08-19. Fields absent below are ones Bitwarden does not document, not ones we assumed.

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Reset starts at | https://vault.bitwarden.com/#/hint |
| Reset by email | yes |
| Reset by phone | no |
| The email contains | a code |
| Old password required | no |

## Steps

1. **Open Bitwarden's password reset page** at https://vault.bitwarden.com/#/hint. This is where the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in screen leads.
2. **Enter the email address on the account.** If you are not sure which address that is, search your inboxes for mail from bitwarden.com; the inbox holding those messages is the account email.
3. **Enter the verification code** Bitwarden emails you.
4. **Choose a strong new password.** 16+ random characters, and never one used anywhere else.
5. **Store it somewhere sealed**: a password manager or encrypted vault, not a note and not a screenshot.

## Common problems

- **No password reset capability for individual users.** Bitwarden has no way to access, retrieve, or reset your master password: its encryption is designed so the company never learns it. If you forget it and have no recovery options, you must delete your account and create a new one. (https://bitwarden.com/help/forgot-master-password/)
- **Account deletion without login.** Users without master password access can delete their account via email verification at https://vault.bitwarden.com/#/recover-delete without logging in. (https://bitwarden.com/help/delete-your-account/)
- **Session logout may take up to one hour.** When deauthorizing all sessions, the changes propagate immediately but may take up to one hour for other devices to register and sign out. (https://bitwarden.com/help/security-faqs/)

## Doing it automatically

Repass connects to Gmail once, finds the accounts you have, and runs this flow for you in your own browser. Passwords are generated on your device and encrypted before they are stored; Repass also holds a key that can unwrap the vault, so signing in is enough to open it. It pauses and hands over when a site asks for a CAPTCHA or a code.
